If one does not regard himself superior or equal or inferior by reason of the body, the feelings, perceptions, volitions or consciousness what else is it than seeing reality?\u201d<br \/>\n<em>\u2014 SN 22.49 (Buddhist teachings)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kabir &#8211; The couplet<\/strong><br \/>\n?????? ?? ????? ????, ??? ????? ???? |<br \/>\n???? ??? ?????, ??? ????? ??? ||<\/p>\n<p><strong>transliterated:<\/strong><br \/>\nGyani se kahiye kya, kahat Kabira lajaaye|<br \/>\nAndhe aage naachte, kala akaarat jaaye ||<\/p>\n<p><strong>Translation:<\/strong><br \/>\nHow can I say anything to a learned man, says Kabir, shyly |<br \/>\nDancing in front of a blind man, is of no avail to the art form||<\/p>\n<p><strong>My thoughts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA feeling of superiority is a very pleasant mental state, but it is essentially akusala \u2014 unhealthy and unskilled, highly dangerous in its results.\u201d &#8211; What Can Be Done About Conceit?   by Dr. Elizabeth Ashby<br \/>\nPride inevitably lands us at the feet of conceit \u2013 which can give the body and the physical brain a very addictive (but short-lived) high.<\/p>\n<p>Pride and conceit do drive a person to work for more \u2013 but the high from each \u201cachievement\u201d is very short-lived \u2013 driving the person to attempt the next \u201cachievement\u201d \u2013 and the low from each even partial failure can be debilitating.<\/p>\n<p>That was why our elders preach moderation and a calm detachment \u2013 as Lord Krishna<br \/>\npreached to Arjuna (in the Bhagawad Gita) , it is our job to do what we need to do \u2013 results will come but that cannot be our focus. Our job is to do our tasks with a sense of calm detachment (the detachment is from the result, not the task itself).<\/p>\n<p>Pride and conceit lead to addiction and ultimate failure.
