Hunger is a persistent dog. Ignore it, and it continues demanding attention. Kabir’s practical advice is almost humorous: give it a morsel—then return to remembrance. The body is neither condemned nor crowned king. The word “morsel” matters. Kabir points toward sufficiency: meet the genuine need without turning every appetite into a feast.

Virginia Woolf speaks from another setting. In A Room of One’s Own, she shows how food, money, education and private space shape women’s freedom to think and write. Kabir is concerned with devotional attention. Yet both reject the convenient fiction that mind and spirit float above the body.

I sometimes expect clarity from a system I have neglected. I may call myself undisciplined when I am exhausted, or treat irritability as a moral failure after ignoring hunger, rest or silence. Then I sit down to pray while the body sends overdue invoices—and wonder why the mind will not become still!

Spiritual discipline is not self-punishment. But care can also become indulgence. The body asks for food; desire demands a particular meal. The body needs rest; habit asks for endless comfort. Kabir’s morsel stands between neglect and excess. Before prayer, reflection or demanding work, I can ask: What does this body genuinely need to become a quiet participant? Perhaps simple food, water, sleep, movement or five minutes away from a screen. Meet the need honestly—then return to the work.

The couplet also changes how I view another person’s hunger. Advice about meditation sounds very different when offered to someone who has not eaten. Sometimes the spiritual response is not another teaching. It is a meal. Feeding the body does not complete the spiritual journey. Refusing to feed it does not make me advanced. The body is not the destination, nor is it unwanted baggage. It is the lamp I have been given—and even a lamp needs enough oil to hold the flame.

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”— Virginia Woolf, A Room of One’s Own (1929) Kabir – The couplet कबिरा क्षुधा है कूकरी, करत भजन में भंग।याको टुकरा डारि के, सुमिरन करो निशंक॥ Transliterated Kabīrā kṣudhā hai kūkarī, karat bhajan mẽ bhaṅg |Yāko ṭukrā ḍāri ke, sumiran karo…

[5,4,9,10

post-894","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-kabir","category-philosophy","category-philosophy-and-religion","category-religion
["GET
